NBA Draft: Zabian Dowdell
March 22nd, 2007
by Jeff Fox
NBA Draft: Zabian Dowdell
College: Virginia Tech
Class: Senior
Stats: ESPN.com
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6”3”
Weight: 190lbs
Accolades: Honorable Mention All-ACC (06), ACC All-Defensive Team (06), Honorable Mention All-ACC (05).
Scouting Report: An experienced, well-rounded guard.
Strengths: A bit of everything – he’s a good scorer – over 1700 points for his career; good rebounder for his position; decent assist man; great thief – over 200 steals for his career. Very experienced – played 4 seasons for the Hokies and averaged over 32 minutes a game each season. Good three-point shooter. Can also drive to the hoop to score and has a decent mid-range game. Good size as a point guard. Very good defender.
Weaknesses: Is he a point guard or a shooting guard in the NBA – is probably too small to play the 2 spot in the pros, so Dowdell will have to prove he can run the point for an NBA team.
Projected 2007 Draft Range: Late second round pick – undrafted.
Consensus: Dowdell’s outstanding play this year has made him into a legitimate draft prospect. He has become a much more consistent shooter and scorer and could be a sleeper in this year’s draft.
