Stats: Euroleague

 

Position: PF/C

Height: 7’0”

Weight: 245lbs

 

Accolades: Brazilian Junior National Team, Brazilian National Team, 2003 South American Championship First Team All-Star (03).

 

Scouting Report: A talented, athletic big man with great hands.

 

Strengths: Great defender – Splitter uses his long frame and decent strength to play great man-to-man D.  Very experienced – he moved to Spain from his native Brazil when he was 15 years old and started playing pro ball immediately – he has spent the past 4 seasons in Vitoria, competing in the ultra competitive Euroleague and ACB (Spain) leagues.  Great hands – catches all sorts of passes and attacks immediately.  Good passer.  Can outrun most big men up the floor to get easy fast break points.   Very good running the pick and roll.  Really stepped his game up last season in the Euroleague quarterfinals, helping his team make it to the Final Four.

 

Weaknesses: Needs work on his back to the basket moves – is more comfortable facing up currently.  Isn’t skinny but needs to get bigger and stronger to thrive in the NBA.  Not a big scorer in European competition, but while playing with the Brazilian National Team has shown that he is capable of scoring.  Should be getting more rebounds and blocks than he does.  Contract situation – Splitter is under contract to Tau for 1 more season, and both parties have talked in the past about honoring the full length of the contract.

 

Projected 2006 Draft Range: Top 10 pick to mid first round pick.

 

Consensus:  Splitter is a very exciting NBA prospect.  His athleticism, size and experience should make him a dynamite NBA player.  However, a buyout from his Spanish league team would have to take place before Splitter appears in the NBA before 2008, so that may scare some teams off.
