Wake Forest's Jamie Skeen Suspended for Fall Semester

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest men’s basketball player Jamie Skeen will not be with the Demon Deacon team during the fall semester, as announced by head coach Dino Gaudio on Tuesday. Skeen has been suspended by the University due to a violation of academic policy.

“Jamie is an outstanding young man with much to contribute to Wake Forest, both on the basketball court and to the University,” said Gaudio. “However, sometimes good people make poor decisions, and that is what happened here. Hopefully, this will be a learning experience for the young man that will help him grow as a person.”

Skeen, who recently completed his sophomore season at Wake Forest, is a two-year letterwinner for the Deacons. In 2007-08, the forward from Charlotte saw action in 29 games with six starts. Skeen averaged 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

South Carolina Releases Chad Gray

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 22, 2008) - Sophomore forward Chad Gray has been dismissed from the South Carolina men's basketball team for repeated violations of team rules, head coach Darrin Horn announced today. "We wanted Chad to succeed both on and off the court at the University of South Carolina and gave him ample opportunity to do so," said Horn.

"Unfortunately, he was not able to meet the minimum requirements that we have established, and we are disappointed in that. We wish him nothing but the best in his future." Gray, a 6-7, 205-pounder from Kingstree, S.C., averaged 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while playing in 19 contests, including one start for the Gamecocks during the 2007-08 campaign.

There's a #11 on UCONN? Yep, you might not remember who this is.. but Jerome Dyson returns from his 9-game suspension tonight. The Huskies won of 8 of 9 without the former starting two-guard, so apparently they can survive without him.

NCAA Rules on OJ Mayo Situation

USC had asked for an interpretation from the NCAA on whether it was a violation for O.J. Mayo to receive tickets to an NBA game from Carmelo Anthony, an individual with whom he had a pre-existing relationship. USC received an answer from the NCAA earlier today. The NCAA ruled it a violation, therefore at that time USC declared him ineligible and petitioned for his reinstatement. As a condition of his reinstatement, the NCAA said that he had to make a charitable contribution of $460 based on the value of the tickets. He and his family did that today, therefore late this afternoon the NCAA restored his eligibility and he will be able to play in tomorrow’s game against Oregon.

“We are happy with the outcome of this situation and are glad we can put this behind us,” said USC head coach Tim Floyd. “I feel bad that I gave O.J. some incorrect advice. We all learned some lessons through this process. We appreciate the hard work done by our compliance office and the NCAA staff.”

UWM Dismisses Torre Johnson

MILWAUKEE - Torre Johnson, a senior forward from Milwaukee, has been dismissed from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team while Roman Gentry, a sophomore guard from Sioux City, Iowa, has left the team for personal reasons.

Head coach Rob Jeter made both announcements following practice this afternoon.

Johnson was originally suspended by Jeter Saturday following an off-court incident.

"I have had the chance to speak to Torre and express to him my extreme disappointment in his behavior," Jeter said. "The conversation also gave me the chance to tell him this was not something we could accept and that he would no longer be a part of our basketball team."

Johnson started all 10 games this season for the Panthers, leading the team in scoring and rebounding.

Meanwhile, Gentry cited family concerns in wanting to return closer to his home in western Iowa.

"For some time, Roman has told us of his desire to return closer to his home so that he can spend more time dealing with his family responsibilities," Jeter said. "Because he has a daughter at home, he has bigger responsibilities than this team and I can understand that. I don't agree with his leaving us in the middle of the season but that is his decision. We certainly wish him the best and hope he can be successful in the future."

Gentry started the first four games of this season before playing more limited minutes off the bench in the last six contests. He averaged 5.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

UWM Suspends Torre Johnson

Senior Torre Johnson has been suspended from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team, UWM head coach Rob Jeter announced today.

"We learned of the situation involving Torre Johnson this morning and I want to make it completely clear I find this kind of behavior totally unacceptable," Jeter said. "This touches a nerve with me and, based on the facts as I have them now, it is simply something I cannot tolerate. I understand there is a process to follow in gathering all available information and any additional facts, but I am taking the swiftest action I can at this time."

Johnson is UWM's leading scorer and rebounder through the first 10 games of the season, averaging 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

ASU's Adrian Banks Suspended

JONESBORO (12/2/07) - Arkansas State Head Men's Basketball Coach Dickey Nutt announced Sunday that senior guard Adrian Banks has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

Banks started ASU's first six games this season, averaging 21.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

"Our policies concerning violations of team rules have never changed, regardless of a player's role on our team or how good they are," said Nutt. "We have team rules in place that apply to everyone on the team, and if those rules are broken we will gather all the facts surrounding the violation and then move forward accordingly, which is what we are doing here."

Banks did not travel for ASU's game at Northwestern on Monday, Dec. 3, and his status for future games is yet to be determined.
