This is the first of what will be six mini statistical previews of the major conferences. Each one includes projected starting lineups, projected stats for each player, and a short comment. Boston College G Tyrese Rice - 19, 3, 5 G Biko Paris - 6, 2, 4 F Rakim Sanders - 7, 4, 2 F Shamari Spears - 9, 5, 1 C John Oates - 8, 5, 1 6 Tyrelle Blair - 4, 6, 0 This lineup is by no means certain. If Paris doesn't perform, Rice could simply handle point guard duties. Blair also could get the minutes over Oates due to his defensive presence. Clemson G Demontez Stitt - 8, 2, 5 G Cliff Hammonds - 10, 4, 4 G KC Rivers - 17, 5, 3 F Trevor Booker - 14, 7, 1 F James Mays - 13, 7, 2 6 Julius Powell - 6, 3, 1 Powell should be much improved after being plagued by injuries, but Sam Perry and Raymond Sykes will be equally important off the bench. Duke G Greg Paulus - 14, 3, 5 G Jon Scheyer - 11, 3, 2 G DeMarcus Nelson - 13, 5, 3 F Kyle Singler - 13, 6, 2 C Brian Zoubek - 6, 4, 1 6 David McClure - 5, 4, 1 Duke has as much depth as anyone in the conference, and Henderson will be as important as McClure off the bench. Freshman Taylor King is a potential stats maven down the line. Florida State G Toney Douglas - 14, 4, 4 G Isiah Swann - 10, 3, 4 G Jason Rich - 13, 4, 2 F Uche Echefue - 11, 6, 1 C Julian Vaughn - 6, 5, 0 6 Ralph Mims - 4, 2, 3 Echefu should be the most improved player, due to Thornton's absence and the addition of new freshmen big men (Vaughn & Solomon Alabi). Georgia Tech G Matt Causey - 6, 3, 4 G Lewis Clinch - 13, 4, 2 G Anthony Morrow - 12, 4, 1 F Mouhammad Faye - 9, 5, 1 F Jeremis Smith - 12, 7, 2 6 D'Andre Bell - 6, 3, 1 This lineup could go a bunch of ways. Transfer Causey might not start, instead being replaced by freshman Maurice Miller. Also, Zach Peacock could start at forward and will get just as many minutes as Bell. Maryland G Greivis Vasquez - 13, 3, 5 G Eric Hayes - 7, 3, 5 F Landon Milbourne - 7, 3, 1 F James Gist - 15, 8, 1 F Bambale Osby - 11, 6, 1 6 Cliff Tucker - 6, 3, 1 Gist could put up some of the best numbers in the conference. If you translate Osby's minutes last year to 30 per game, he'd have been around 14 and 9 a game. Miami G Lance Hurdle - 7, 2, 5 G Jack McClinton - 14, 3, 3 F Brian Asbury - 10, 5, 2 F Dwayne Collins - 10, 8, 1 C Anthony King - 12, 9, 1 6 Edwin Rios - 5, 2, 3 King should battle for the conference rebounding title. Freshman Rios won't really be the sixth man (probably Raymond Hicks), but I have him there since he might be starting in place of Juco newcomer Hurdle. North Carolina G Ty Lawson - 13, 3, 8 G Wayne Ellington - 16, 3, 2 F Marcus Ginyard - 9, 4, 2 F Deon Thompson - 10, 5, 1 F Tyler Hansbrough - 18, 9, 1 6 Danny Green - 8, 4, 1 Hansbrough's numbers will be similar to the last two years, but Ellington's numbers should get a big boost. North Carolina State G Marques Johnson - 5, 2, 3 G Gavin Grant - 17, 6, 4 F Brandon Costner - 15, 7, 2 F Ben McCauley - 13, 7, 2 F JJ Hickson - 10, 7, 2 6 Courtney Fells - 9, 3, 2 Johnson isn't eligible until the 2nd semester, so it could be newcomers Farnold Degand or Javi Gonzalez at the point to start. Perhaps Hickson could be the sixth man with Fells starting, but JJ's too good to sit. Virginia G Sean Singletary - 21, 5, 6 G Mamadi Diane - 12, 4, 2 F Adrian Joseph - 8, 4, 1 F Will Harris - 9, 5, 1 F Laurynas Mikalauskas - 7, 3, 1 6 Tunji Sorye - 4, 5, 0 The only thing holding Singletary back might be too much defensive attention. Still, he could surpass my 21 ppg prediction. Virginia Tech G Malcolm Delaney - 5, 3, 4 G AD Vassallo - 10, 5, 2 F Deron Washington - 14, 6, 2 F Jeff Allen - 10, 6, 1 C Lewis Witcher - 5, 5, 1 6 Cheick Diakite - 5, 5, 1 I went with Delaney at point, but fellow freshman Hank Thorns could also win the job. Allen is the real deal. Wake Forest G Ishmael Smith - 9, 3, 7 G Harvey Hale - 13, 3, 2 G LD Williams - 9, 5, 1 F Jamie Skeen - 10, 6, 1 C David Weaver - 6, 4, 0 6 Cameron Stanley - 6, 4, 1 Who knows what to expect from Stanley, he could end up in the doghouse once again. Freshmen Gary Clark and Jeff Teague will seriously push Smith and Williams for time.
