In conjunction with the regular Bracketology articles, here's a projected look at the 2010 NIT field. Teams with a are guaranteed a bid. The regular-season champion from a league (depending on the league's tie-breaker system) automatically gets a bid into the NIT. In the NIT, the higher seed hosts, but teams are matched up within seed geographically as opposed to a snake order. Green = new team. Arrows represent change in seed since last update.

THOUGHTS

-- Due to the wins by Houston & New Mexico St and the swap of Minnesota for Virginia Tech on the NCAA projection, three former NCAA Teams enter the field tonight. This knocks down a lot of the prior teams and thus all the red arrows.

-- There were no conference championship upsets affecting the NIT automatic bids today.

-- St Louis is the lone team to drop out.

-- The key thing to look at in the NIT is how much the committee favors the mediocre/undeserving BCS teams like Alabama, Texas Tech, UNC, etc.. vs the quality high or mid-majors like Nevada, SLU, and Portland. As you can tell from the field here, I'm banking on the commiteee over-ranking the BCS squads.

NIT selection

How can u rate VCU over Northeastern? They play in the same conference--Northeastern finished second--VCU 5th. They played twice during the season Northeastern won both games. Northeastern's strength of schedule is much stronger than VCU's. The only edge VCU has is in winning % which really is directly proportional to your schedule strength.

Harvard

Where's Harvard? 21 wins, a nationally known player in Jeremy Lin, a nationally known coach in Tommy Amaker, lots of alums in and near NY.

Fairfield

Fairfield won the regular season MAAC, therefore an automatic bid for the NIT where are they?
You are missing Harvard too, I have a feeling they will be in there somewhere.
