INTERVIEW W/ MEN'S ASSISTANT JOSH PASTNER

Coach Pastner is heading into his 1st season as full-time assistant with UA

after being a player under Coach Olson.  We'd like to thank him for taking

the time to take part in our Coaches Survey Series.

(CHN) How satisfied are you with the 'state of the program'? What do you think is needed

for your program to the reach the next level?

The Univ. of Arizona basketball program is at a very high level at this
present time, but the key is going to be constant daily improvement and always
trying to find ways to get better. The worst thing we can do as a basketball
program is think we have made it to the top. We always need to think how
can we get better.

(CHN) On a similar note, what do you feel about the current state of the NCAA?
Are there any major problems with the institution of College Basketball?

The current state of the NCAA obviously has done a good job on 99% of the
issues. There are some issues that might need some tinkering and the NCAA
is working with the coaches to help make it a better situation for everyone
involved.

(CHN) Do you look for specific players to take important leadership roles each year?

Who do you expect to fill that role this season?

We are always looking for team leaders and usually the true leaders will
find ways to get it done. We expect great leadership out of Jason Gardner,
Luke Walton, and Ricky Anderson, our 3 seniors this season.

(CHN) How do you feel about the newcomers to this year's squad?

Who do you think will be a major contributor right away?

We have 4 very talented newcomers to the program this season. We expect
all 4 of the freshmen to play a major role with our team this season. Each
one of them is extremely talented with tons of athletic ability. For our
team to reach the goals we have set for ourselves the 4 freshmen will need
to step it up in a big way.

(CHN) What are your reasonable expectations for this year's team?

Here at the University of Arizona our expectations every year is to win the
conference title, conference tourney, and the national championship. That
is why guys want to come to Arizona because we set our goals at the highest
level they can be set.

CHN recently interviewed Arizona Men's Assistants Jim Rosborough & Women's Head Coach Joan Bonvicini as well.
