On July 21st, 2004 Collegehoopsnet.com published an article by Kyle Mallory titled "Oregon Ducks Summer Update."

In this article, it appears that a variety of mistakes as well as misattributed quotes were unfortunately published.

In the first paragraph following the heading "Promising Season Ahead", the following line was incorrectly reported: “The athleticism of this groups as a whole is really amazing,” Coach Kent said while watching his team practice. 

Coach Kent never made this comment while watching his team practice this summer, nor was it made while Coach Kent was attending a summer workout or any such event.  In fact, the quote should have been attributed to Jordan Kent, a sophomore on the University of Oregon basketball team.  This quote, falsely attributed to Coach Kent, was an alteration of a quote made by Jordan Kent in an article published on July 18th in The Oregonian.

Other quotes in this CHN article are of a similar nature, in that they appear to be altered versions of quotes made in the same article in The Oregonian.  The article in question can be read at the following URL: http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/109006581542350.xml

Collegehoopsnet.com apologizes for any harm these quotes may have caused the University of Oregon, the Ducks Athletics Department, the Men's Basketball Team, or Coach Kent. 

This is an unfortunate and embarrassing situation for CollegeHoopsnet.com, as well as for me personally as the editor of CHN's basketball content.  In no way does CHN condone plagiarism, nor the publishing of faulty information.  It is our goal to promote the highest standards of integrity, both journalistic integrity and otherwise.  Along this line, apology is also in order to the readership of CHN for unintentionally publishing this material, which does not comply with our expected and usual standards.

Again, the entire CHN family apologizes for the errors and apparently plagiarized material unwittingly published in the article titled "Oregon Ducks Summer Update" on July 21st, 2004.  Disciplinary action is being taken against the author Kyle Mallory, and the article is being removed from the website immediately.
