How far can they realistically jump?

As you say, they were 24th going into the week. They beat two good teams, but not much has lost ahead of them. I think media bias will keep UNC in the top 10 POSSIBLY, and that may drag syracuse into the top 10 just because of that. I think aside from what UNC does, they SHOULD be ranked about 13/14 based on those wins. We don't know how good those wins really are until later in the season.
On another note- UNC is going to struggle a bit this year for them. Top 20 wouldn't be a terrible goal for this team. The Wear twins looked slow on D (but provided as park on offense) and their front court is way overrated (and Drew is a marginal at best PG). Its still a good win for hte cuse, but watch UNC drop games against teams with a bit of experience.

agree with jeff here.. i think what we'll find out is that unc was not realistically the 4th ranked team, but more like 20-25th.. they have some serious flaws. I could see Cuse vaulting all the way up to 10-11 or so

You say they're ranked 24th. I think we should ask why collegehoopsnet didn't even have them in their top 50. Seriously?

They are certainly a lot higher than the 67th best team that your Joel Wiesler (sp?) Had them in them in your preseason poll. I left a comment then, along with about 20 other people, about how off-base he was, and how he didn't do any research. Now, I know that preseason rankings aren't exactly easy, but even a blind person could see that he had no idea what he was talking about.
Maybe someone else should do them next year? Someone without Big 10 roots (biases)? Just sayin'.

I hate the way polls are done...I wish pollsters would vote on who they legitimately feel are the top teams at that time. A true "snapshot" at that point in the season. Instead, its like there are certain rules that need to be followed. As far as Syracuse's ranking come monday, I know it won't be this way, but I feel they deserve to be top 3. Noone has looked as impressive as them so far...Kansas & Texas haven't done anything to warrant a drop in their ranks. Michigan State hasn't looked better than Syracuse. Neither has any other team in the top 10...Teams like Kentucky, Villanova, Purdue etc...Syracuse looks very very tough to stop on offense, and their defense looks very long and tough to handle.

I think the fact that teams in the top 10 are getting very unconvincing wins should somehow impact the rankings. Although teams like Nova and Kentucky have won, they have not done it in a fashion that warrants their seed. Syracuse looked great in dismantling Cal and UNC. Cal will probably fall off a cliff and their 12th seed will seem like a joke, but UNC will stick around all season and most likely be playing for the ACC title once again. If everyone agrees that the preseason polling system is less than legit, than why can't we argue that Syracuse deserves to fly up the charts given how good they look in ACTUAL games?

Syracuse is definitely a top 5 team based on opponents and quality of win, but good thing the season is long because they won't move up there yet! Every great team struggles a game or 5 during the season. ESPECIALLY this early on. All the top teams seem to be based on potential alone since Kentucky didn't make the tourney last year but somehow everyone thinks john wall is the savior.
I just don't think Syracuse fans can get too excited at this point. good team, yes, great? we will see- you beat a team that might not belong in the top 25 in Cal, and an overrated UNC team.
