#107 Georgia Bulldogs
SEC
2003-04: 16-14, 7-9, 8th
2003-04 postseason: NIT

By
Joel Welser

The Bulldogs sneaked into the NIT with a 16-14 overall record. It will be a huge challenge for Dennis Felton to lead his team back again. The top four scorers, rebounders and assist leaders are all gone, and amazingly that is from just four players. There is a lot of new talent coming in and returning players ready to step up and see some more minutes, but they’ll have to come together quickly to have a chance to compete in the SEC.

Who’s Out: Rashad Wright, Damien Wilkins, Jonas Hayes and Chris Daniels were all in the top four in points, rebounds and assists. That means new faces will be needed to make an impact in nearly every aspect of the game. Wright led the team in points with 14.4 and assists with three per game. Daniels was a monster on the boards, grabbing over eight rebounds per game.

Who’s In: Corey Gibbs was redshirted last year and should make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs. The 6-7, 225 pound power forward might be a little short for the four spot, but he’s a tough inside player who can put up big numbers. Robert Dozier is expected to play small forward, but can also be a power forward. He is a scoring threat from inside and out. The 6-8 freshman is working on bulking up a little and could be a starter on opening day. Channing Toney is another highly touted newcomer for Georgia. The shooting guard is no stranger to scoring and will see significant playing time. Fellow shooting guard Sundiata Gaines will also see some time off the bench. Center Dave Bliss and power forward Younes Idrissi have also committed to the Bulldogs. Alex Evans, Kevin Brophy and Sam Greavu are expected to walk-on to Dennis Felton’s squad.

Who to Watch: Levi Stukes is the leading returning scorer with 9.5 points per game. The 6-1 combo guard will put up bigger numbers when he is given the chance, which will happen this year. Stukes, just a sophomore, needs to be the glue that holds together a team loaded with freshmen. He will be a prolific scorer, but without a true point guard on the team, Stukes will have to do the dishing as well. There should be no problem with Stukes running the point. He has great knack for penetrating and finding the open man.

Projected Conference Rank: It will take time for this team to come together. After a few really tough years though, the future is finally looking bright in Athens. A lot of young guys will get a lot of playing time, considering there is only one player that is an upper classman, and he’s rarely used. In a few years, the Bulldogs will be very good, but for now an 11th place finish in the SEC is expected.

Projected Post-season Tournament: none
