An appearance in the Preseason National
Invitation Tournament, a Bracket Busters Saturday match-up and
three games against Big Five rivals highlight the
Drexel men’s
basketball 2005-06 schedule, which has just been released. The
schedule, which consists of at least 27 games, begins early this
year. The Dragons play at Princeton on November 14 in the
opening round of the Preseason NIT. It marks Drexel’s second
appearance in the tournament.
Drexel has its first home game on Nov. 21
against Rider University. After that contest, the Dragons play
three-straight games against Philadelphia teams in the Palestra.
The stretch begins on Nov. 26 against Penn. The Dragons then
face Saint Joseph’s as part of a doubleheader with Penn on Nov.
29. Drexel’s final appearance in the Palestra will be against La
Salle in the Big Five Classic on Dec. 3.
The Dragons will face an opponent, to be
announced, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center as they once again
take part in ESPN’s Bracket Buster Saturday. That game will be
played on Feb. 18. Ball State, last year’s Bracket Buster
opponent, also visits the DAC on Dec. 20. Other non-conference
games include road contests at Fairleigh Dickinson and Monmouth.
The 18-game Colonial Athletic Association
schedule begins on January 7 as the Dragons face James Madison
as part of a Drexel doubleheader. With the addition of Georgia
State and Northeastern to the CAA, the Dragons will have an
unbalanced schedule in 2005-06. Drexel will play home-and-home
against Delaware, Hofstra, UNC Wilmington, Northeastern, Old
Dominion, Towson and William & Mary. They will play one game at
both George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth, while hosting James
Madison and Georgia State.
Drexel returns eight letterwinners from
last year’s team. Point guard Bashir Mason is the lone returning
starter back from last season. The Dragons finished the 2004-05
season with a 17-12 overall record and a 12-6 mark in the
Colonial Athletic Association. Drexel earned its third-straight
trip to the National Invitation Tournament last year, the first
time the school has made the postseason in three-consecutive
years since the 1996-97 season.
