Richmond Basketball Schedule

The University of Richmond Athletics Department announced today that the men's basketball team will play William & Mary at home on Saturday, Dec. 31, and the game against Virginia Commonwealth, originally scheduled for the Robins Center, has been moved to VCU's Siegel Center on Saturday Dec. 10.

After the William & Mary game was set for the Robins Center, giving the Spiders what would have been a school-record-tying 17 home games, Richmond asked VCU if it would host the Dec. 10 contest and then play at the Robins Center in the 2006-07 season.

"We requested this change from VCU in order to balance our home schedule over the next two years, and they agreed," head coach Chris Mooney said.

The home game with William & Mary will mark the first visit to the Robins Center for the Tribe since Richmond was a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in the 2000-01 season.

The Spiders' 2005-06 non-conference schedule now includes just two road trips outside the city of Richmond. The team will play in the Colonial Classic at Louisville Dec. 3-5 and have a road game against Tulane with the site yet to be determined. The Green Wave is currently living and practicing on the campus of Texas A&M.

Including eight home Atlantic 10 contests, the Spiders are scheduled for 16 regular season home dates - which equals the second-most in Robins Center history. The 1981-82 slate included 17 home games, while 16 regular season games were played on the home court in 2001-02.

Richmond will face eight teams which went to postseason play last year, five in the NCAA Tournament (Louisville, Wake Forest, Old Dominion, George Washington, Charlotte) and three NIT participants (Saint Joseph's, Temple, Virginia Commonwealth).

The 13-game non-conference schedule includes two teams from the Big East (Louisville and Seton Hall) and two from the ACC (Wake Forest and Virginia). Richmond will play six in-state opponents, with home games against Virginia, Old Dominion, William & Mary, Hampton and Longwood.
