Yale Basketball Schedule

Yale Sports Publicity

Yale’s already challenging 2005-06 schedule has gotten a little more difficult. The Bulldogs will play perennial power Kansas at historic Allen Fieldhouse on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. The Jayhawks have made 34 NCAA Tournament appearances and are the third winningest program in all of college basketball.

“The addition of Kansas to the schedule gives us the opportunity to play one of the nation’s elite programs for the third straight year,” said James Jones, the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Men's Basketball. “It will be an exciting challenge.”

The Bulldogs played Connecticut in 2003-04 and Wake Forest last year, both of whom were ranked No. 1 in the country at the time of the game. Kansas went 23-7 overall in 2004-05 and tied for the Big 12 regular season title.

Yale and Kansas have played only once before, a 63-54 KU victory in the first round of the 1975 Jayhawk Classic.

In addition, Yale and Fairfield have agreed to extend the series between the two schools. The original agreement was set to expire following the 2005-06 season. The Bulldogs and Stags were scheduled to play on Jan. 5, 2006, but a conflict arose.

Fairfield and Yale have met 20 times, including each of the last three years. The series began during the 1976-77 campaign and continued for the next 15 seasons. After the 1997-98 meeting, the series took a brief hiatus until it resumed for the 2002-03 campaign.
