College Basketball: Early 2006-07 Top 25

 

Yes, the NCAA Championship was just a few days ago, but its never too early to get a start on next season.  Heck, in a little over two months, we'll already start rolling out our Top 144 team previews for the 2006-07.  In making this list, I took informed guesses on who will or will not enter the NBA Draft.

2006-07 Early Preseason Top 40

1

North Carolina

..it's a typical pick, but hansbrough is 1st team all-american next year

2

Kansas

..brandon rush is ready to become a legit go-to star for bill self

3

UCLA

..afflalo continues to improve, and the return of shipp improves the offense

4

Ohio State

..i dont think the average fan realizes just how good oden will be on defense

5

Texas

..forget aldridge, horns welcome stud durant to go along with 3-pt bombers

6

Villanova

..don't underestimate the return of sumpter along with improving lowry

7

Florida

..you have to figure one of noah/horford is gone, but gators are still deep

8

Wisconsin

..experienced badgers will be right there in big ten title race

9

Memphis

..washington should be back, but im guessing williams goes pro

10

Duke

..the key to duke's success will be demarcus nelson

Louisville

..dean is overrated anyways, this team is primed for a huge season

Washington

..no one recruits better than lorenzo romar these days

Arizona

..williams and budinger could have arizona back in final four.. in 2008

Texas A&M

..just about the entire team is back from this emerging program

Alabama

..steele, davidson, hendrix give tide good mix of inside-outside

Tennessee

..chris lofton is one of the nation's most underrated scoring stars

Georgia Tech

..so young and deep, that top 10 is not out of the question

Georgetown

..hoyas lose trio of seniors, but no conference loses more than big east

Southern Illinois

..nothing wrong with returning top 9 scorers from tourney team

20

Pittsburgh

..aaron gray could have an all-american type season

21

Boston College ..dudley now the man with smith gone

22

Syracuse ..devendorf and incoming harris form good young backcourt

23

Xavier ..the team to beat in the atlantic 10 next year

24

Oklahoma State ..this team only needs more experience

25

Connecticut ..if williams is back, move huskies up 10 spots

26

Florida State ..if al thornton comes back, noles could be even higher

27

LSU ..thomas and davis are as good as gone for john brady

28

Michigan State ..last year's freshman class is ready to step up

29

Indiana  ..just plug white back into killingsworth's spot

30

Marquette ..point guard dominic james is absolute stud
