CollegeHoopsnet.com’s Unsung Player of the WeekJanuary 22nd, 2004
For the week, Lewis averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 3 steals per game. He did all this while shooting 67% from the floor and an impressive 12-14 from the free throw line. The Lexington, KY native scored a career high 26 points in the win over EKU, and then followed that up with a career high 15 rebounds against Morehead two nights later. For the season, Lewis is averaging 10.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 61% from the field.
Last season, Lewis averaged 12.7 points and 7 rebounds per game while helping Austin Peay make the NCAA Tournament with a 23-8 record. The Governors got off to a slow start this year due to a brutal schedule that included 12 of 15 games away from home. But now having won 5 games in a row, and with 8 of the last 11 games at home, APSU has a strong chance to make the Big Dance for the second year in a row.
This week’s finalists for Unsung Player of the Week honors include Aerick Sanders of San Diego State, Elijah Palmer of Duquesne, and Monmouth's Blake Hamilton.
