Scouting Report: A hard working, versatile forward.
Strengths: Big time scorer. Very efficient scorer - shoots for a high %. Capable of playing inside or out. Athletic. Good physique. Tough and physical player. Very experienced. Hard worker. Long wingspan. Good slasher. Can hit shots from all over the floor. Can be a dangerous three-point shooter. Good at drawing fouls and getting to the line. Solid rebounder.
Weaknesses: Stuck between positions for the NBA. Needs to work on his ball-handling. Can force the issue on offense. Will be 24-years-old by the time of the draft. Turnover prone. Not much of a passer - doesn’t get assists. Played most of his collegiate career in the post.
Projected 2009 Draft Range: Mid to late first round pick.
Consensus: Sam Young finds himself in the dreaded “NBA tweener’ category. Not big enough for the post in the NBA, Young needs to continue to develop his small forward skills to ensure his employment in the NBA.

Over this young man's career all he did was break a few records and make new records in the process,from high school to prep and on to helping Pitt win the big east championship in 08 to help carry the panthers to the Ellet 8 in 09 this young man has a bright and long lasting career of head of him in the NBA I am so proud of him good luck to the nephew I call Man........

He's also 24, which in Draft terms is ancient. There are guys 6 years his younger in Draft pool

Background
Jeff Fox is a freelance journalist based an hour outside of Toronto, Canada. While attending University of Waterloo (Canada) earning a B.A. in Economics and Management Studies, Jeff managed to walk onto the school’s varsity basketball team, the Warriors, for 2 seasons. His final year riding the pine for the Warriors saw the team make it to the CIS (Canada’s NCAA equivalent) Final 8 tournament. I think Sam Young has been one of the best players in the tournament and he should be a lottery pick, if not top 10. He can shoot it so he doesn't need to post up. Nobody can stop him, he's too fast, too strong, too smart, too skilled. He's like Lebron.
