College: Louisville
Class: Freshman
Position: PF
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 240lbs
Accolades: USA Today National High School Player of the Year (08), First Team All-USA - USA Today - high school (08), McDonald’s All-American - high school (08), First Team Parade All-American - high school (08).
Scouting Report: A bruising power forward.
Strengths: Big and strong. Long wingspan. Explosive around the hoop. Great offensive rebounder. Good hands. Tough, physical player. Nice jump hook. Good work ethic. Decent shot-blocker.
Weaknesses: A year older than most other freshman. Poor rebounder - one of the worst defensive rebounding power forwards in college. Turnover and foul prone. Still very inconsistent. Short for the post in the NBA.
Projected 2009 Draft Range: Mid first round pick.
Consensus: Samardo Samuels will play in the NBA one day, but he should really go back to school for another year. While he is physically ready for the pros, he still needs to improve aspects of his game and could use a season of being “the man” at Louisville.
