Joel’s Monday Mailbag
Joel,
Why don’t you east-siders show Brandon Roy a little more
love, leave east coast luv in your pocket.
From Homer,
Washington
This is what happens when you don’t leave your name or
location…I make one up for you. A recent CHN article by Mr. Michael Dugan
gave plenty of ‘luv’ to Brandon Roy.

Personally, I ‘luv’ the Pac-10. I’m not sure why. Maybe
it’s those cold, snowy Thursday nights when I miss the scorching heat of the
Valley. Or maybe it’s Robbie Cowgill. The media does tend to leave Roy out
of many discussions, but let’s face it; the Pac-10 does not have too many
interesting storylines going on right now. Besides Cal’s battle with the
bubble, there are more exciting things going on in the world of college
basketball and have been much of the year. I still watch just about every
Pac-10 game, but I understand the lack of interest on a national level. I
like Washington to make a little run, pending on match-ups. Roy will get
the respect he deserves at that point and a few months after that in the NBA
Draft.
Joel,
I have my Big Ten Tournament bracket all ready to fill
out, but I keep getting stuck. Any suggestions?
From Matt,
Florida
You’re not the only one. Conference tourneys for power
conferences are always tricky. Does Michigan State really care? Sure, they
say they do and play like they do (maybe), but the Spartans don’t have much
depth and would be just as well off getting a few extra days of rest. For
fun, we’ll go in order.
Game 1: Penn State over Northwestern…again
Game 2: Michigan over Minnesota…the Wolverines really
need this one
Game 3: Michigan State over Purdue…it’s Purdue.
Game 4: Ohio State over Penn St…we’ll get to an upset
sometime
Game 5: Indiana over Wisconsin…the Badgers have no
momentum
Game 6: Iowa over Michigan…the Hawkeyes slaughtered UofM
in their only meeting
Game 7: Illinois over Michigan State…I don’t want to
watch Illinois beat MSU again
Game 8: Iowa over Illinois…Iowa has the consistency
advantage
Game 9: Indiana over Ohio State…Hoosiers don’t like to
sweat on Selection Sunday
Game 10: Iowa over Indiana…Hawkeyes seem to always get it
done in Indy.
Joel,
Is there any chance that somebody knocks off Memphis
in the C-USA Tournament?
From John,
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
In Memphis’ seven conference home games, they averaged
victory by over 18 points and it’s not like they didn’t play any of the good
teams at home. It could happen in the semifinals against Houston or in the
finals against either UAB or UTEP, but it’s unlikely. The best shot is
UAB’s style of play to wear down Memphis in their third game in as many
days.
