NBA Draft: Aaron Gray
College: Pittsburgh
Class: Senior
Stats: ESPN.com
News: Aaron Gray News Feed
Position: C
Height: 7”0”
Weight: 270lbs
Accolades: Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year (high school) (03), Big East Most Improved Player (06), All-Big East First Team (06).
Scouting Report: A big, strong fundamentally sound big man who lacks NBA athleticism.
Strengths: Big strong post player. Great rebounder. Large frame allows him to block a fair share of shots. Can score adequately down low. Played big minutes his junior and senior years in the highly competitive Big East.
Weaknesses: Not athletic enough for the NBA – not real quick or a high jumper. Doesn’t have range on his jumper. Doesn’t have the foot speed to guard NBA players that would face up on him.
Projected 2006 Draft Range: Late lottery to mid first round pick.
Consensus: As the old cliché goes, you can’t teach height – and Gray has plenty of that. But in the new style NBA, with many teams not implementing a “traditional” 7-foot bruising center in the middle, where does Gray fit in. His size should get him onto an NBA roster, but his lack of NBA quickness and athleticism will limit his effectiveness.
