Player of the Week: Gary Forbes

December 17th, 2007

There were some great performances scattered across what was a quiet week in college basketball. Nebraska's Aleks Maric led the Huskers to a pair of wins, including an upset of #16 Oregon.  Robert Vaden absolutely exploded for 33 points, 28 in the second half, as UAB beat a reeling Kentucky squad.  But our choice for the Player of the Week is UMASS wing Gary Forbes.

The Brooklyn native led the Minutemen to a pair of wins over in-state rival Boston College and Toledo.  Against BC, Forbes finished with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.  The win at Chestnut Hill was the second big road win for UMASS, following Syracuse on November 28th, against a power conference team.

Coming back home to face Toledo, Forbes was rock solid once again with 25 points and 6 rebounds. His efforts earned him Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors, and helped UMASS improve to 8-2.

The senior, the first to be named CHN Player of the Week this year, is averaging 21.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, and 3.8 apg on the season.
