Collison is Pac-10 Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA guard Darren Collison has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 12-18.
Collison, a sophomore from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., averaged 17.5 points and 9.0 assists last week as the Bruins completed a season sweep of the Arizona schools. In the Bruins’ 67-61 come-from-behind win at Arizona State, Collison scored a career-high 18 points. After trailing 49-43 with just over nine minutes to go, Collison took over the game, scoring 11 straight points for UCLA. Collison followed his career scoring night with a career assist outing in the 81-66 win at Arizona. The sophomore dished out 15 assists and scored 17 points against the Wildcats, with a career-best five three-point field goals, helping UCLA win at Arizona in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1983-84.
Collison’s career-high assists marked the second-best total in UCLA history behind Earl Watson, who recorded 16 during the second round of the NCAA tournament against Maryland in 2000. For the week, Collison shot 12-of-24 from the field (.500) and was 8-of-14 from beyond the arc (.571).
This is the second weekly honor for Collison and UCLA’s 45th Player of the Week all-time.
