Darryl Watkins: NBA Draft Profile
NBA Draft: Darryl Watkins
College: Syracuse
Class: Senior
Stats: ESPN.com
Position: C
Height: 6”11”
Weight: 258lbs
Accolades: First Team All-State – New Jersey – high school (03).
Scouting Report: A big time defender and shotblocker.
Strengths: Shotblocking – Watkins should finish his career with over 250 swats. Good NBA size. Good offensive rebounder – gets about 3 per game. When he does get a chance to shoot he shoots for a high percentage. Plays for a program known for producing NBA talent.
Weaknesses: Offense – not much of a factor on the offensive end of the court. Has never averaged in double-digit scoring in his career. Only gets about 5-6 shots per game. Only played significant minutes his last two years in college. Can he guard players one-on-one – Syracuse almost exclusively plays zone defenses.
Projected 2007 Draft Range: Second round pick.
Consensus: Watkins would definitely be a project in the NBA, especially on the offensive end. However, his size and defensive abilities should get him a look by a team in the draft.
