Games of the Day: Duke at Maryland

Games of the Night

A companion to our daily Three Stars of the Day, we present the top three Games of the Night.

#3 Duke (16-1) at Maryland (12-7)

6:30 PM FSN

A game that suddenly has new importance now that Maryland is coming off the win over #1 North Carolina. The tournament committee loves any finish over .500, and a win by the Terps would go a long way towards accomplishing that goal. Duke is 4-0 in league play, and hasn't shown any signs of slipping, even on the road against FSU and Va Tech. Maryland is a different type of opponent though, who truly believes they can win tonight. I like Duke to win by 6 or 7.

Prediction: Duke

#13 Vanderbilt (17-2) at Florida (17-3)

1:00 PM ESPN

Due to their weak non-conference schedule and lowered expectations, Florida's impressive record has gone mostly unnoticed. They came close to beating ranked Ole Miss on the road, and would be 5-0 in SEC play but for that loss. After their pristine 16-0 start, Vandy has gone just 1-2 with losses at UK and Tennessee. If they can lose at Kentucky then they're certainly vulnerable in Gainesville. The key today will be the play of Vandy's young big man, Andrew Ogilvy, coming off perhaps the two worst games of his career.

Prediction: Florida

#22 Xavier (16-4) at UMASS (13-5)

12:00 PM

This is an interesting and important game for the A10.  With Dayton having lost three straight, and surely exiting the Top 25, a loss by Xavier today could leave the league with no ranked teams. And this is just a couple weeks after having three ranked squads. The problem is simply that the conference is too good top to bottom, but the voters don't respect this depth. Xavier has only been mediocre away from Cincinnati, with just a 2-3 record, but are still 4-point favorites (though the spread has been shrinking). I like the Minutemen here.

Prediction: UMASS
