NBA Draft Profile: Dominic James
NBA Draft: Dominic James
College: Marquette
Class: Sophomore
Stats: ESPN.com
Position: PG
Height: 5”11”
Weight: 175lbs
Accolades: First Team All-Big East (07), Big East Rookie of the Year (06), Big East All-Rookie Team (06), Honorable Mention All-Big East (06), CHN First Team All-Rookie (06).
Scouting Report: An explosive, high scoring guard.
Strengths: Explosive player – lightning quick with crazy jumping ability. Can really put points up on the scoreboard. Can penetrate and get to the rim whenever he pleases. Has three-point range on his jumper. Strong physique. Great rebounder for his size. Decent distributor of the ball.
Weaknesses: Shoots for a horrible %. Is a volume shooter – puts up a lot of shots. Will be very undersized for the NBA. Poor shot selection. Doesn’t always make good decisions with the ball. Leaves his feet too often to make passes. Prone to long shooting slumps. Poor free throw shooter.
Projected 2007 Draft Range: Mid second round pick 2007; mid first round pick 2008.
Consensus: The diminutive guard’s draft stock has plummeted after a sub-par sophomore season that saw James go through a long shooting slump. He is best off to stay in school at least another year to straighten out his shot and improve his all-around game.
