Selection Sunday: 2011 NCAA Tournament

In 2011, Selection Sunday is on
March 13th. The expanded 68-team NCAA Tournament field will be announced on CBS, beginning at 6
PM. This follows the completion of the Big Ten Championship, which is the last
game before the Field is announced.
The 68 teams that make up the NCAA Tournament field are selected by the NCAA Selection Committee, made up of Athletic Directors and Conference Commissioners. Shortly after the field is finalized, the NCAA Tournament bracket is announced.. and immediately after that, you can find printable brackets and Tournament predictions here on Collegehoops.net.. as well as inevitable criticism of the teams selected.
According to many college basketball fans, Selection Sunday is the best day of the college basketball season.. even surpassing the National Championship game.
The field consists of the following:
Automatic bids - These bids, 31 in all, go to conference champions. Of these bids, 30 go to conference tournament champions. Most conferences have their tournaments on the week preceding Selection Sunday. The Ivy League is the only conference that does not conduct a postseason tournament; in that conference, the regular-season champion receives the automatic bid.
At-large bids - These are schools that the NCAA selection committee deems worthy of a tournament bid. The NCAA tournament has 37 at-large bids available. The selection committee takes great care to treat teams fairly based on their overall resume, as opposed to being biased by team prestige and conference prestige. To this end, the committee uses various computer rankings, most notably the RPI. However, history has shown that the highest ranked RPI team not to make the tournament is almsot inevitably from a "mid-major" conference.

How can you say that the SEC sucks when you have Kentucky at No. 2 in the nation (previously No. 1), Tennessee at No. 13, and Vanderbilt at No. 23? I personally am a UK fan, but I have a lot of respect towards the Gamecocks after they defeated UK.

if you think sc gamecocks will win any tourny this season your a damn retard...the best thing they have had this season is the win over kentucky which in my opinion isnt that great bc the SEC is a weak basketball conference anyway...john wall is good but way overrated and again the only thing the gamecocks will be winning is tickets to the NIT tournament..if they are lucky

and if you think maryland is going to the elite 8 your dead wrong. yeah vasqueze is a solid player but their win against duke was lucky...they are at their peak and with a 5 or 6 seed in the tourny they will be out second round no questions asked, doesnt matter who they face..they are skilled but they arent that skilled..and if you think unc is even going to make the ncaa tournament your crazy...they will be lucky for an NIT tourny bid
