Taurean Green: NBA Draft Profile

April 15th, 2007

NBA Draft: Taurean Green

College: Florida

Class: Sophomore

Stats: ESPN.com

  Position: PG

Height: 6”0”

Weight: 177lbs

Accolades:  Second Team All-SEC (07), SEC All-Tourney Team (07), Second Team All-SEC (06), SEC Tournament MVP (06).

Scouting Report: A speedy, experienced scoring point guard.

Strengths: Very good scorer for a point guard – put up over 13 a game both his sophomore and junior seasons.  Can shoot the three-ball – average more than two threes hit per game his last two years in school.  Great free throw shooter.  Very fast player – can get a team out and running the fast break.  Much improved shooter his junior year.  Used to playing big minutes – averaged over 33 a game the past two seasons.  Big game experience.

Weaknesses: Needs to take better care of the ball and improve his decision making – averaged five turnovers per game in this year’s Final Four.  Not a real accurate shooter – his junior season was the only year he hit over 40% of his shot attempts (but he is improving).  Has to become more of a pure point guard and look to score less.  Will be a little undersized for the NBA.

Projected 2007 Draft Range: Early second round pick.

Consensus:  Of the Gators’ heralded junior class, Green is the one who returning to school for his senior season would make the most sense.  While he greatly improved his shooting touch his junior season, his point guard game stills needs work.  With no guarantee of going in the first round (and, subsequently, a guaranteed contract), Green could find himself overseas or in the D-League next year if he doesn’t impress.
