Writers Predictions: 2010 Top 15 Teams

Just a few days after UNC wrapped up their dominant National Championship run, CHN writers are already at it with their predictions for next year. Of course, these early rankings go with the disclaimer that most college players have yet to announce their NBA Draft decisions. But each writer has made their best guess about who will go pro, and we'll be back with updated projections following the Entry Deadline.

CHN writers were asked a simple question: Who will be this year’s biggest disappointment? Here’s what our guys had to say.. let us know who you would choose below:

	UCONN: I don't see anyone on the roster capable of taking over a game. AJ Price and Jeff Adrien are solid but not spectacular, and Hasheem Thabeet is still awkward offensively. They'll be good, but I don't see a deep tourney run. Jason Brubaker
	Arizona: The program is just in shambles with top recruits bolting. With Lute gone, I don't expect them to do much, despite having some talented pieces. Jeff Fox
	Arizona: This pick may be seen as piling on, but there are just too many questions in regards to their bench. Not to mention an entirely new coaching staff. If they make the NCAA Tournament Russ Pennell should be considered for National Coach of the Year honors. Raphielle Johnson
	Pittsburgh: The Panthers live and die by the talented but injury-prone Levance Fields. Kevin McNeill
	Davidson: Listen, I want Davidson to dominate every team they face, and for Steph Curry to become the face of college basketball. It would be good for business. But the Wildcats simply don’t have enough talent to be the world-beating team everyone is hoping for. Shawn Siegel
	Notre Dame: They will be good, but definitely not Top 10 good. Due to a still porous defense, they weren't able to win the tough games last year and there are going to be a ton of slugfests in the Big East this year. Jason Tomassini
	Texas A&M: It will take a huge effort to replace the interior game of Joseph Jones and DeAndre Jordan. And Dominique Kirk was more important than his numbers would indicate. Joel Welser
	Arizona: Chase Budinger and Jordan Hill will not be enough to keep 'Zona from slipping to the middle of the pack in an increasingly young and talented Pac-10. Joey Whelan

SURPRISE TEAMS

CHN writers were asked a simple question: What team will be this year’s big surprise? Here’s what our guys had to say.. let us know who you would choose below:

	Cincinnati: Mick Cronin's teams will always fight you to the end, and with Yancy Gates and John Riek joining Deonta Vaughn, the Bearcats may have enough talent to surprise some teams in the Big East. Jason Brubaker
	Syracuse: In this year's big, bad Big East, the 'Cuse seems to be getting overlooked with all the talk about UConn, Pitt and Louisville. With a deep, veteran, talented team the Orangeman should be a dangerous team this season. Jeff Fox
	Penn State: This is a decent team in regards to talent, and I think that things will turn in favor of Coach DeChellis at some point. For my sake, and probably his too, I hope this is the year. Raphielle Johnson
	Baylor: Senior-laden team, great coach, star in the making with LaceDarius Dunn. All the makings of a Sweet Sixteen team or better. Kevin McNeill
	Florida: Will the Gators win the title this year? No. But they’ll be dangerous in the NCAA Tournament again, perhaps showing early signs of an epic 2010 run. Shawn Siegel
	Syracuse: There could be some addition by subtraction going on with Donte Green, who couldn't defend and shot the Orange out of games, in the NBA. Add a healthy Devendorf and Andy Rautins, plus a ready-to-breakout Paul Harris and the Orange could crack the top 15. Jason Tomassini
	Texas: Forget about Kevin Durant and D.J. Augustin, the Longhorns have more players ready to step up. A.J. Abrams and Damion James are next on the list. Joel Welser
	Wake Forest: Sure the media projected the Demon Deacons as the third best team in the ACC already, but the return of James Johnson and Jeff Teague coupled with a trio of blue chip recruits, means that Wake could leap frog Duke in the conference standings. Joey Whelan

BREAKOUT PLAYERS

CHN writers were asked a simple question: What player is on the verge of becoming a household name? Here’s what our guys had to say.. let us know who you would choose below:

	Chris Wright (Dayton): With Brian Roberts gone, Wright will get plenty of chances to carry the Flyers. A terrific athlete who was one of the most touted recruits to ever sign with Dayton, Wright was limited to 13 games because of injury last year, but he has the talent to be an all-conference player when healthy. Jason Brubaker
	Sherron Collins (Kansas): Pretty simple - the Jayhawks need Collins to play big minutes this season and become more of a focal point, so I expect him to do so. Jeff Fox
	Eric Devendorf (Syracuse): Devo was playing the best basketball of his career before he went down with the knee injury last year. Look for him to come back full steam and combine with Jonny Flynn to make up one of the BIg East's best backcourts. Raphielle Johnson
	Patrick Patterson (Kentucky): Was the only freshmen among the SEC's top scorers before getting hurt last season. He'll be the biggest reason Kentucky will be a contender for the SEC East. Kevin McNeill
	Jeff Allen (Virginia Tech): Lost in last year’s freakish freshman class, Allen quietly had a solid 11 & 7 season for Virginia Tech. But if he keeps his head on straight, Allen has the chance to be one of the best players in the ACC. Shawn Siegel
	Austin Daye (Gonzaga): There is nothing on a basketball court he can't do (well, except defend, but who cares about that, right?). Just a match-up nightmare that can get his shot off any time and should keep improving. Jason Tomassini
	Damion James (Texas): James can score around the basket, shoot the ball and is an absolute beast on the glass. A.J. Abrams might be Texas' leading scorer this season, but James will be the most valuable player. Joel Welser
	Austin Daye (Gonzaga): Daye is a 6'10" perimeter player who can dribble, shoot and create his own shot. WCC defenders, you have been warned. Joey Whelan

ACC = UNC (Big shock here..)

Big East = Louisville (4 votes edges out 3 for UCONN. Big East has most variance with 4 projected winners.)

Big Ten = Michigan State (6 votes. It will be funny when Wisconsin surprises again and we're all wrong..)

Big 12 = Texas/Oklahoma (Each gets 4 votes. Lone ranger Jeff Fox goes with Baylor to ruin a possible consensus.)

Pac-10 = UCLA (Unanimous along with UNC)

SEC = Tennessee (Everyone but Kevin & Shawn go with the Vols. Kevin's LSU pick is really the only one of the 54 selections out of Left Field.)

*Joey is the only voter whose selections all match the consensus. Jeff Fox has the most unique picks with UCONN, Purdue, and Baylor.
