The Collegehoops.net Top 50 Power Ranking is your weekly window into the national college basketball scene. Is the Top 50 Better than the AP or the Coaches Polls? At the very least, the Top 50 has no agenda like the coaches and we go deeper into the country than most power-conference biased media members. The CHN Top 50 is brought to you before everybody else late Sunday night! (New: Check out the weekly Non-BCS Top 25 Ranking.)

Week One Top 50 Ranking: November 16th

- Only two of the Top 50 teams lost; Mississippi State to Rider (who moves onto the next in line list), and Creighton to Top 20 team Dayton on the road. A few changes here and there based on how well or not well teams looked, but otherwise this is pretty much how the ranking looked in the preseason. 08-09 final Top 50 ranking is included for reference. "Pre." = preseason ranking.

Updated Top 50 Ranking: Kansas #1

This has certainly been one of the more eventful off-seasons in recent college basketball memory with big-time coaching changes, scandals, NBA Draft decisions, and last-minute decisions by big-name recruits.

Thus my "Super-Early Top 50 Ranking" back in April is almost obsolete by now, and an updated ranking is sorely needed.

In the list below you'll see my original April ranking as well as the team's final 08-09 CHN Top 50 ranking. Note that these picks are purely my own opinion and do not reflect CHN's official 144 Teams in 144 Days preseason ranking.

2010: EarlyTop 50 Ranking

I had more fun putting together this list than most. Unlike this year when UNC was a clear favorite before the season and before the tournament, next year certainly looks much more interesting. A host of talented freshmen should be a major boon to the overall quality talent of the top teams, and there's more than enough solid players returning. Outside of Blake Griffin and the UNC guys, there's no one who the average college basketball fan will particularly miss next year.

It goes without saying that a lot can change in coming weeks as final Draft decisions are made and the final recruits get hired by their respective programs. As I allude to, adding Xavier Henry could put Kansas over the top.. then again John Wall could shake things up as well.

Definitely post your thoughts on places where you agree or differ.. there's certainly many debates to be had.
