New Year's Day recap, and a preview of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

January 2nd, 2008

Well, the first day of 2008 has come and gone, and with it six more bowl games. Unfortunately, as the day progressed the games became less competitive, capped by Georgia soundly whipping Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Dawgs and USC, 49-17 winners over Illinois in the Rose Bowl, made impressive cases for their inclusion in the national title game. So once again, a system put together in hopes of giving college football a clear national champion has failed miserably.

New Year's Day bowl lineup. Hell, why even pick these any more?

December 31st, 2007

Well, I have now found a way to question my "knowledge" of college football. After a regular season in which I got a good number of the conference champions correct, I've thoroughly embarassed myself in picking bowls. Francis the Feline (of ESPN2's First Take fame) has been more successful, and all he does is eat cat food. I'm throwing darts at this point. Here are quick previews for the six games on the docket tomorrow, including the first two BCS games.

6 bowl games on tap New Year's Eve

December 30th, 2007

The final day of 2007 will be a busy one, with six bowl games on the schedule. Beginning in Fort Worth (Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl) and ending in Atlanta (Chick-Fil-A Bowl), teams will be looking to either cap impressive (and in some cases surprising) seasons or take some positive out of an otherwise disappointing year. Here are quick previews of each game, along with my pick.

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth, TX)
12:30 PM EST, ESPN
California (6-6) vs. Air Force (9-3)

Three more bowls on tap Saturday

December 29th, 2007

Alright, after three solid bowl games on Friday (I went 2-1 with Houston being the loss) three more are on tap Saturday. The games will feature one conference co-champion, a head coach coaching his 500th game, and a running back 181 yards shy of the single season rushing record. Included are another head coach who's been connected to some of the bigger job openings, an interim head coach and the SEC Coach of the Year. Here are quick previews of these three games.

Meineke Car Care Bowl- Charlotte, NC

Quick preview of Friday's bowl games

December 28th, 2007

Well, after last night's embarassing prediction (thank you very much, Rudy Carpenter, for opening your big mouth), I'll give the three games on tap tonight a shot. Not sure what I'll do if all three are wrong, but I'm going to simply follow my ESPN College Bowl Mania picks from this point forward and whatever happens happens.

Another rematch in a bowl game...Motor City Bowl preview

December 26th, 2007

After taking a couple of days for Christmas, the bowl season kicks into full throttle, beginning with tonight's Motor City Bowl between Purdue and Central Michigan. The two teams played in West Lafayette back in November, with the Boilermakers winning 45-22. The two teams combined for more than 1,000 yards of offense, and more of the same should be expected tonight. Both teams run the spread offense, and they also have porous defensive units (Purdue 60th in total defense, CMU 106th).

Bowl season kicks off tonight

December 20th, 2007

If you're a diehard college football fan, then this is the season for you. Thirty-two games spanning the nation from tonight until the National Championship game on January 7th will allow the winners to head into the off-season with a positive feeling. Truth be told, there's too many bowl games out there, most of them sponsored by companies who will bombard you with commercials touting the virtues of their products. And with the exception of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, I could care less what these people are hawking.

Daily Dribble: Out of Town

December 8th, 2007

Out of town Friday and Saturday, so I apologize for the lack of updates. Be back soon!
