June 2nd, 2009

According to Bill Martin of recruitrecon.com, Central Connecticut State has added forward Markeys Dean to the roster. Dean, who played his high school basketball at St. Dominic on Long Island, heads to New Britain by way of Howard JC in Texas. Markeys is described as a "combo forward with good hands and above average athleticism". While at St. Dom's Dean was recruited by the likes of Stony Brook and Ball State, and sure enough those were the other two finalists for his services. As a high school senior, Dean was awarded the Richard Sandler Award by Newsday, an honor the paper gives to the best player in Nassau County. He posted averages of fourteen points and ten rebounds per game in that season.

While on the subject of hoops in the Nutmeg State, six schools will take part in the first "Connecticut 6 Classic". Fairfield, CCSU, Sacred Heart, Yale, Quinnipiac and Hartford will play at The Arena at Harbor Yard on November 13th. Sacred Heart and Yale tip things off at 5:30 PM, followed by CCSU taking on Fairfield at 7:30 and the Quinnipiac/Hartford matchup closing out the evening. The schools came to an agreement on a three-year deal, with the following two years being hosted by the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.
