Cowboy Robbery

February 27th, 2010

At 4 pm Eastern Time Saturday the Oklahoma State Cowboys could be potentially putting their season on the line when the 27-1 Kansas Jayhawks and they tip off. The Jayhawks are a perfect 13-0 coming into the game while the Cowboys are 19-8 overall 7-6 in conference play. Oklahoma State is coming off a loss to Texas without starting forward Matt Pilgrim which people seem to be forgetting. Meanwhile Kansas is coming off an 81-68 victory over Oklahoma where Xavier Henry continued his hot play scoring 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting. His strong play is key for Kansas to make a deep run in March since Sheron Collins can’t be relied on to do it all, Cole Aldrich is limited offensively and Marcus Morris is still not aggressive enough. The Cowboys do not play great defense so will rely on a great offense to make up for it especially at home where they are 13-1. They have the conference’s leading scorer with James Anderson who can get any type of shot he wants. They also have Keiton Page who has been hot lately besides last game where he was in foul trouble. The previous 4 games he averaged 20 points while shooting 45 percent from 3. He will have a tough task guarding Sheron and his massive body but should be able to stay in the game longer and put up decent numbers. Oklahoma State will have no problems matching up with Kansas. Marshall Moses will be physical enough to limit Cole Aldrich and Obi Muonelo or James Anderson will be able to contain Xavier Henry. Muonelo has recently been able to put up 31 points in a game giving the Cowboys that extra potential big time scorer that they’ll need against Kansas. I don’t see Xavier Henry being able to keep up his hot play seeing as he struggles on the road shooting a mere 38% averaging 9.6 points. Seeing as how James Anderson has averaged 30 points in his last 3 games at home and since the Cowboys will be playing behind a noisy crowd in Stillwater where they play much better than on the road like most teams I don’t see how the Jayhawks sneak out with a win ending their perfect conference record bid. James Anderson is huge for their success but they also need Muonelo and Matt Pilgrim to attack Cole Aldrich and take his rebounding out of the game. If they do so I don’t see how the Cowboys will lose this game. Oklahoma State knocks off #1 Kansas, sending thousands of fans onto the court in Stillwater and giving the Cowboys and all important resume win.
