Lance Stephenson to Arizona?

April 26th, 2009

According to Adam Zagoria, there is interest on both ends of this scenario. Stephenson, the uncommitted senior thought to have narrowed his list to three schools (Kansas, St. John's and Maryland), has opened his options due to dissatisfaction with his current choices. He has a relationship with assistant Emmanuel "Book" Richardson, something that could get the Coney Island native out west. Kevin Parrom, formerly an Xavier signee, is slated to visit Arizona next weekend. No visit for Stephenson has been set up, but it wouldn't be a shock if he were to take that opportunity at some point.

I think it's surprisingly

I think it's surprisingly feasible he goes there. I feel like Lance wants to be the man wherever he goes (ie, with a chance to put up big time numbers) which is why Kansas will be a no go.. and I think he should shock the world and go to Fairleigh Dickinson :)

I've come around on this too

He wants the ball, and it's a place that quite clearly would ask a lot from him next year. As for FDU, they're not the only team in the area who could really use him. NJIT anyone?

Stephenson

Arizona is currently lost in a sea of nobodies basketball-wise and are seldom on national TV. LS wants numbers and TV. He might get the numbers at AZ, but certainly won't get the coverage there.

Are you crazy?

I will give you that Arizona plays its games between 9 and 11pm on the east coast, but every single game is televised nationally on either CBS, ABC or Fox Sports (some games are on all Fox Sports channels and some are on Fox Sports Arizona). DirecTv and Dish Network both carry the Fox Sports Channels as an add-on. You couple that with the games on ESPN and the hype surrounding Miller's first season, media exposure next year will not be a problem.

No exposure? You can't be serious?

He would be playing for a team that will use him right away and will get the numbers he is looking for, no doubt!

But too say he would have no exposure is just crazy! Arizona is still considered a top tier program with the longest NCAA streak currently active at 25 straight years. Couple that with the many NBA stars to come out of there and national recognition Arizona gets and you can't get much more exposure.

With this being Sean Miller's first year of officially taking over for Lute Olson there will be media all over it all year long. As far as TV time; the other poster already filled you in.

I do agree that the Pac-10 has done a horrible job with their TV contracts and should rethink their current situation with Fox Sports, but LS WILL get TV exposure as well as numbers!

Are you F-ing nuts?

Arizona is on a meteoric rise back to national prominence and is a member of one of the 3 strongest conferences in the country. Which conference has had the most lottery picks over the past five years? Almost every UA game is televised, many of them nationally. I live in NY (Long Island) and I can count on one hand the number of UA basketball games I've missed over the past few seasons. Only a few schools like Duke, UNC and possibly Kansas can rival Arizona when it comes to national exposure.

Arizona would actually be the perfect place for Stephenson. They offer a young, talented roster with the opportunity to EARN lots of playing time. Additionally, there's no established scorer on the roster unless Nic Wise decides to return. The real question is this - Is Stephenson a good fit for Arizona? I have serious doubts about this. If Miller had really wanted Stephenson, it would have been a done deal by now. That's why I would be surprised if LS ever ends up in Tucson. From everything I hear from those in the know, LS is just another over-rated headcase from NYC.

On a side note, basketball has been dead in NYC for a long, long time. If you don't believe me, just check out how many NYC players have become All-Americans or even All-Big East in the past decade. Of that handful, only a fraction have gone on to successful NBA careers. Just ask high rated NYC players like Omar Cook, Kenny Satterfield, Bassy, Erick Barkley, Felipe Lopez, Majestic Mapp, Kareem Reid, Russell Robinson, Terrence Rencher, Willie Dersch, etc... the list goes on and on.

Sidney & Stephenson ?

Look for Arizona to make a run at Renardo Sidney now that he is re-opening his recruitment. I also think Zona has a real shot of landing both Stephenson and Sidney. They played together last summer in an AAU tournament and seem to be able to co-exist with eachother nicely.

Plus, if you look at high

Plus, if you look at high schools, Sidney and Solomon Hill both went to the same high school which makes another little connection. I would love to get Sidney and Stephenson down here!

Sidney's officially going to

Sidney's officially going to Mississippi St so you don't have to worry about that combo anymore

They need an All-American

It would help to get Lance. Even if he isn't as good as people predict he will be. I think the situation would be great because:

He gets to move away from all the legal issues that are surrounding him on the East Coast.
He will get the playing time that he is seeking.
He gets to go to school in a warm climate during the winter months

It would be great for Arizona even if LS doesn't become as great as analysts predict because:

It displays that we can recruit McDonald's All-Americans still
We need more talent players, period!
It would make close to complete our loses in Mike Moser and Adbul Gaddy, ofcourse the loses in the '08 class cannot be recovered.

Stephenson to FIU?

Just read this over on the NBE Basketball Report page: Isiah Thomas is going after Lance hard. The link:
