Maryland vs UNC: The Last Thoughts

As I do with most games (be it basketball or football) as the game gets closer and closer I come out with my "The Last Thoughts". What is "The Last Thoughts" you might ask. Basically it is a post all about gut feelings. Whether they be about the Tar Heels, the opponents, the coaching staff, the fans, or anything else I am thinking about just before the game. So, with about one hour or so before the Tigers and the Heels take to the floor at the Dean Dome, here are my thoughts on this game...

First thought: As Ty goes, so do the Heels. The junior speedy point guard needs to make this team go like head coach Roy Williams wants it to go. When Lawson is on his game the Heels seldom lose, and that is why he is so important to this season's success.

Second thought: Inside/Out play. Feed the post over and over and over again. Maryland is small and I have to believe that Hansbrough, Thompson and Davis are going to have a field day against a team that has their biggest players at 6'7"/6'8".

Third thought: Do not let them stick around. Between the fact that they are remembering last year's upset in the Dean Dome and that they are very good from the charity line, keeping them in the game would be a huge mistake. The Heels need to go into the locker room with a double digit lead and have the game wrapped up way before the final horn is blown.

Fourth thought: The shooters. Wayne Ellington, Danny Green and Bobby Frasor need to hit shots in this game. They have to open it up as much as possible for the bigs inside and get Maryland to run around defending both the paint and the perimeter.

Last thought: Duke is coming, but do not think about anyone but the team you are playing. I know that we are all awaiting the game between the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels in Durham, but for now coach Williams needs this team to focus on the game in front of them and nothing else.

That's it, there are the "Last Thoughts" of a home game that will get the bad taste from a lot of fan's mouth from last year. I am sure that all of the players that were in that one want a piece of revenge in this one, and they will have their chance, as long as they play carolina ball!
