UNLV Rebs on the Radar
A couple weeks ago UNLV kicked off the pre-season with a public scrimmage. Some UNLV players stuck out for various reasons. For instance, Brice Massamba recently earned attention by the noticeable pounds he shed over the summer. In addition, fans welcomed the return of Matt Shaw, a force in the post position. At a recent work out, the Las Vegas Sun commended Derrick Jasper's efforts at the point position. It seems that the fresh, new Rebel squad is coming together well.
This website rated UNLV substantially low at a national level, but today, the ESPN/Coaches Poll stated otherwise. In the company of fellow MWC teams BYU and SDSU, the Coaches Poll rated UNLV somewhere in the top 50s. This is a respectable rating for a team that, for many outsiders, seems like a question mark. UNLV's position within mention of other quality team boasts well for this year's Rebel squad.
November 10th UNLV will play a pre-season game at the Thomas and Mack where UNLV's National Championship team will be honored in a 20th Anniversary celebration. Lon Kruger continues to garnish support from former Rebel players. And in hopes of packing the Thomas and Mack this season, small season ticket packages are being offered for all UNLV fans. Go to the unlv.edu website or unlvtickets.com for more information.
According to the MWC Pre-Season Poll, the Rebels are posed to finish 3rd in the conference behind SDSU and BYU. However, it is unclear how BYU's veteran leadership will play out or how SDSU's youth will bode for either of their squads. UNLV will have an excellent chance of performing well during the conference schedule, and with key early home games including Louisville and UNR, the Rebels have a chance to continue gaining national recognition.
Until next time...Go Rebels!!!
