If there's a "cinderella" in this tournament, Villanova would be it. The Wildcats hung around the Top 25 all season, but never challenged for the Big East title and mostly went under the radar. With solid guard play, an impressive defensive focus, and a capable big man in Dante Cunningham, the Wildcats have enough pieces to at least give the Tar Heels a better game than Oklahoma did (which isn't saying much).

Matchup Comparison

#1 UNC

#3 Villanova

Ty Lawson

Seems to be 100% healthy now, has 20 assists to just 2 TOs in the tournament. Even hitting threes at a high clip.

PG

Scottie Reynolds

Made a name for himself with game-winning drive against Pitt. Solid, no doubt, but not Lawson.

Wayne Ellington

Up until the Oklahoma game, Ellington had been on the best run of his career. Can Reading the D stopper contain him?

SG

Reggie Reading

Solid defender and glue guy, can pass the ball as well.

Danny Green

Underrated player, defends well and can knock in threes. Still prone to a dud offensive game every once and awhile.

G/F

Dwayne Anderson

Overlooked player. Rebounds well and can heat up from three. Stepped up against Pitt, and could be key to a VU win.

Tyler Hansbrough

Had one of his least effective games of the season against OU. How will he respond?

F

Shane Clark

Solid player who has never lived up to potential. Will lose time to Pena (unless he goes 3-4 from deep again..)

Deon Thompson

Leveled off as season went on, and is prone to disappearing. Losing time to Davis recently.

C

Dante Cunningham

Rock solid forward capable of 20 and 10. Can step out and hit 15-foot jumper.

Reserves

Bobby Frasor/Larry Drew

Frasor somehow gotten worse throughout career. Drew is a solid passer who rarely scores.

PGs

Corey Fisher

Offensive spark who basically gets starter minutes. Jumper has been off in tourney which is troubling.

NA

Wings

Corey Stokes

Will average 15 ppg next year. Every few games, tends to light it up from the outside.

Ed Davis/Tyler Zeller

Both of these guys are A-level future stars. Davis is the Heels main option off the bench now.

Bigs

Antonio Pena

Minutes have shrunk, but a capable reserve. Not as good as Davis though.

Nova's "D" is much better

Nova's "D" is much better and I will take that over anything UNC can dish out. This wont be a 1 point game as in 2005. I say Nova by 4. Nova is gonna kick some tar heel butt this year and I CANT WAIT!!!!

Nova's D is impressive, but not enough + unfair to Frasor

Nova's D has indeed been impressive, but as every other team has found out, they will have to lock down at least 5 players in order to win. Neutralize Hansbrough, you have to stop Lawson (highly unlikely). Stop Lawson, you have to stop Ellington (again, unlikely). Stop Ellington, you still have to contend with Green, Thompson, Davis, and Zeller...Nova's D is good, but not THAT good. Unfair assessment of Frasor...a near-season-long injury derailed his career, and after working to get back in game shape, by that time his role had been overshadowed. He's not a primary option by any means, but still provides meaningful minutes, experience, solid defensive help and intangibles, and an occasional timely 3 or two. As with Wes Miller before him, this squad is better with him than without him.

I DO AGREE THAT THE INJURY

I DO AGREE THAT THE INJURY TO FRASOR AFFECTED HIS CAREER, BUT HE HAS NOT GIVEN THE QUALITY MINUTES THAT UNC NEEDS IN THIS TOURNAMENT...SLOPPY BALL HANDLING AND TURNOVERS... WAYNE ELLINGTON IS A MUCH SAFER OPTION TO RUN POINT WHEN LAWSON HAS TO SIT...UNC HAS TOO MUCH FIRE POWER FOR ANY ONE TEAM TO HOLD...IF THEY PLAY TO THIER POTENTIAL THIS SHOULD BE A UNC CHAMPIONSHIP YEAR....

vill is like vagina they

vill is like vagina they wotn beat unc, plus the boys are back healthy after last gaem and a good week break so shhhhh

Frasor...

Of course Ellington is the safer option...that's why he's the starting SG. The point is whether it is fair to say that Frasor has only "gotten worse" throughout his career...I say it isn't fair. As far as turnovers go, he's only averaging .7/game this year, which is less than the starting 5. That's a direct function of minutes he's not getting, but it doesn't mean he's a liability when he's on the court. He has, in fact, provided some solid play during this tournament...spot-up 3's, strong defensive plays...not burning up the stat line, mind you, but more positive than negative. I think he's done about as well as a player in his circumstances could have done.
